Happy Motivational Monday, friends! It’s hard to believe this is the last motivational post of 2016, but I’m so thankful we’ve made it to this day. Friends, as I write this post, I have to admit I am EXHAUSTED! Not because I hosted Christmas brunch yesterday (though that might be a tiny contributor), but because I just spent the last three hours or so sitting and working through Lara Casey’s Make it Happen 2017 Powersheets (an intentional goal setting planner) and Make it Happen: Surrender Your Fear, Take the Leap, and Live on Purpose (2014), and I’ve barely made a dent in either. My head is pounding and adrenaline is rushing through my veins. I am pumped up! Casey asks really thought-provoking questions that require you to get real with yourself. I don’t think I was ready to admit somethings, but as taxing as this process was, I found my honest responses reflective, illuminating, and beneficial. I will write and post a proper review of both books later this week, but I just had to stop, take a breath, and share what has stood out to me thus far: fear is a powerful thing.

Kermit Says… is back, and with lots to share! Apologies for my absence, but these last few weeks have been quite a whirlwind filled with non-stop travel for job interviews. With every application, resume, cover letter, educational philosophy, recommendation letter, phone interview, and on-campus interview, I can’t help but see parallels between my current experience and my students’ as it relates to their college application process. Just as I had to keep up with my teaching load and prepare for day-long interviews with demo lessons, my students have also had to balance school work and college apps with sports practice and extracurricular activities. It’s exhausting and draining, but boy does it pay off in the end! My hope is that I will receive offers from the amazing schools to which I’ve applied, and I can’t help but hope the same for all students. There’s nothing like seeing your hard work pay off. So, once those acceptances start pouring in, how do you make a decision?

Kermit Says: Get (Un)Funkdafied

I love a good routine. It’s practical. It’s fool-proof. It’s predictable. Get up, wash your face, brush your teeth, shower, get dressed, head to school, go to practice, come home, watch TV, eat dinner, do homework, go to bed. Repeat. What’s not to love about knowing what you have to do, when you have to do it, and doing it every single day? While following a set schedule (almost) guarantees you won’t miss a commitment, it’ll also guarantee you’ll miss something else–the joy and excitement of living life!
